We’ve reinvented the oyster industry
It all began in 2010 when New Zealand’s oyster industry faced a significant challenge that severely impacted the production of spat, particularly during the warmer months. Aaron, the founder, saw this as an opportunity to innovate. Together with his wife Debbie, they embarked on a journey to establish their own oyster farming company.
With years of industry experience and a determination to overcome the challenges of traditional farming systems, Aaron dedicated himself to developing new technology. Through relentless trial and error, he eventually created a groundbreaking solution that has since gained global recognition.
Award winning system
An ingenious mix of simplicity and design, FlipFarm is the world’s first semi-automated oyster growing system. FlipFarm provides an ideal environment for oyster growth, conditioning and hardening along with the ability to have complete control over fouling, pests and predators.
The awards for the system include, the 2021 Future Development Innovation Award by Seafood New Zealand as well as the Australian Good Design Award for Engineering Design. They have also been awarded the Global Seafood Alliance Innovation Award, a first for New Zealand and oyster farming worldwide.
Oysters available year round
With the hatchery production method used, Marlborough Oysters can be enjoyed all year round. Not only are Marlborough Oysters innovatively grown, they’re a culinary sensation. Marlborough Oysters are grown in very deep, high-salinity water, rather than tidal mud-flat areas, so they have a very clean finish.
